How to Die

Inspired by Jules Verne’s line in Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea

“Yes,” I murmured, “we know how to die.”

Cap Nemo

Yes, we know how to die

on battle fields

in hospital beds

from buildings

in acts of cowardice

in acts of regret

in acts of sacrifice

with love

with fear

with hope

Yes, we know how to die

the question then becomes

how do we live?

That will determine

how we die.

With a Single Glance

The single glance

conveyed a thousand

wandering,

wondering,

thoughts.

The single glance

lasted for only the briefest of seconds

but told the stories of lifetimes.

The single glance

between two eyes

between two closed mouths

between two faces

between two people

told the stories of thousands

with a single glance.

An Ode to Lists in 50 Words

Oh, the joy in making lists

or rather more in ending lists

Organized

Proactive

Memory tool

But my favorite thing about lists

is checking off items

A sense of accomplishment

Yes, guilty as charged

I sometimes add things to my to-do list

just so that I can check them off

to do lists
